Yesterday, the Fort Zumwalt West National Honor Society (NHS) held its annual blood drive in the small gym and the event exceeded established goals.
Junior Zoe Worrell, who donated blood for the first time, said that NHS moderator Renee Gryseels helped her understand the impact of her gift.
" I was very nervous but then Ms. Gryseels told me that I was saving three lives with my donation and I was convinced,” Worrell said. “Everything turned out fine."
For her part, Ms. Gryseels said that the drive exceeded expectation. The organization’s overall goal of 33 units of blood turned out to be well surpassed.
“I am just glad that we had such a good turnout,” she said. “Last spring, we had to cancel the blood drive because we did not have enough people sign up. 45 units is amazing and I am so glad that we can help save lives.”
